Do Indian citizens need a permit to visit Lakshadweep?

es. All non-residents — including Indian citizens — require a Protected Area Permit (PAP) to enter Lakshadweep. This includes every island, including Agatti. Apply online at epermit.utl.gov.in at least 15–20 days before your travel date.

Do children need a separate permit?

Yes. Every person entering Lakshadweep — including infants and children — requires a permit. Children can typically be included under a parent's application rather than requiring a completely separate application. Check the portal for current instructions.

Has the permit process become easier in 2025?

Yes, significantly. As of 2025, Indian tourists no longer need a local sponsor from Lakshadweep, and the police clearance certificate requirement has been removed. The process is now entirely online and self-service, with approval typically taking 7–14 working days.

How long does the permit last?

he permit is valid for the duration of your declared stay and for the islands you have specified. It is generally valid for up to 30 days.

Will Beachside Agatti Resort help with the permit?

Absolutely. When you book with us, we send you a formal accommodation confirmation letter (needed for your application) and a complete, personalised permit guide within 24 hours. We are available on WhatsApp throughout the process at +91-9881466003.

Do foreign nationals need a different permit?

Yes. Foreign nationals require the same PAP permit but must apply through SPORTS (the government tourism body) or a registered travel agent. Processing takes longer — apply 20–25 days in advance. Agatti Island is open to international visitors.

THE RESORT & ROOMS

How far is the resort from the beach?

Beachside Agatti Resort is 100 metres from the nearest beach — a 2-minute walk. The famous Agatti Lagoon Beach is 700 metres away — an easy 8-minute stroll.

How many rooms does the resort have?

We have 6 rooms in total — 4 Lagoon View Rooms and 2 Deluxe Beachside Rooms. Each room is 4 metres by 5 metres (20 sq metres) with hotel-grade interiors, AC, private patio, and ensuite bathroom.

Is WiFi available?

Yes, complimentary high-speed WiFi is available in all rooms and common areas. Please note that island internet infrastructure, while functional, may occasionally be slower than mainland city speeds.

Is there 24-hour power supply?

Yes. We have a 24-hour power backup generator to ensure uninterrupted electricity, AC, and charging even during any grid fluctuations.

Can I book a room for more than 2 guests?

Our Deluxe Beachside Room can accommodate 2 adults and 1 child under 12 (extra mattress). For larger groups or families requiring more space, we can arrange 2 adjacent rooms. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Is the resort suitable for senior citizens?

Very much so. Our rooms are on a single level with no steps. The lagoon water is shallow and calm — ideal for guests who are not strong swimmers. We arrange age-appropriate activities such as glass-bottom boat tours and guided island walks. Many of our most loyal guests are between 60 and 75 years old.

FOOD, ALCOHOL & DIETARY REQUIREMENTS

Is alcohol available at the resort?

No. Lakshadweep is a dry Union Territory under Indian law. The possession, consumption, and sale of alcohol is completely prohibited on all islands without exception. There is no alcohol available anywhere on Agatti Island — including at our resort. We do not make exceptions for any guests. Please plan accordingly.

What food do you serve?

We serve fresh, locally inspired cuisine — including fresh seafood, coconut-based curries (traditional Lakshadweep style), rice dishes, vegetarian options, breads, salads, and fresh fruits. Our packages include breakfast and dinner. Lunch is available on a la carte basis.

Can you accommodate vegetarian, vegan, or Jain diets?

Yes. Please inform us of your dietary requirements at the time of booking and we will ensure appropriate meals are arranged. Our kitchen can prepare vegetarian, vegan, and largely Jain-compatible meals (please specify your exact requirements).

Is the water safe to drink?

We provide complimentary bottled mineral water in all rooms, replenished daily. Do not drink tap water on the island.

ACTIVITIES & EXPERIENCES

What water activities are available at Agatti?

We can arrange scuba diving (beginner and certified), snorkelling, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, glass-bottom boat tours, sunset dhow cruises, deep-sea fishing, and guided island walks. Most activities need to be pre-booked — let us know your preferences at the time of reservation.

Is snorkelling safe for non-swimmers?

Snorkelling with a life jacket is possible even for non-swimmers in shallow lagoon areas. Our guided snorkelling sessions use floatation equipment and have an instructor present. However, if you are not comfortable in open water, the glass-bottom boat tour is an excellent alternative to see the reef without getting wet.

What is the minimum age for scuba diving?

The PADI minimum age for Discover Scuba Diving (beginner experience) is 10 years. Full Open Water certification requires a minimum age of 15. For children below 10, snorkelling and glass-bottom boat tours are the best options.

Can I do island hopping from Agatti?

Yes. Day trips to Bangaram Island and Thinnakara Island can be arranged from Agatti by motorboat. We can co-ordinate bookings. Please note that inter-island boat transfers may be affected by sea conditions, particularly during the monsoon months.

Do you arrange scuba diving certifications?

Yes. PADI Open Water certification courses are available through our partner dive operators. The course takes 3 days and costs approximately ₹18,000 per person. Inform us at booking time so we can schedule appropriately.

TRAVEL & GETTING THERE

What is the best time to visit Agatti Island?

October to February is peak season — calm seas, clear skies, and excellent underwater visibility. March to May is quieter and still warm, with good water conditions. June to September is monsoon season — lush and peaceful, with significant discounts on accommodation, though some water activities may be limited on rough-sea days.

How do I get to Agatti?

Fly from Kochi (COK) to Agatti (AGX) in 90 minutes via IndiGo or Alliance Air / Fly91. New direct flights from Bengaluru and Goa are also available. Alternatively, take a passenger ship from Kochi Port (18–24 hours). We provide complimentary airport pickup from Agatti Airport, which is 2 km from the resort.

Can I travel to Lakshadweep during monsoon (June–September)?

Yes. Agatti Airport operates year-round. During monsoon, some boat activities may be limited on rough days, and inter-island ferry services may be disrupted. However, helicopter services connect islands. The lagoon itself is usually swimmable. Many guests who visit during monsoon say it is their favourite time — it is the most peaceful version of the island. Our Monsoon Serenity Escape package is specifically designed for this period.

Are there any ATMs on Agatti?

There is a limited ATM facility on Agatti, but it is unreliable. We strongly recommend carrying sufficient cash (INR) for personal expenses like water sports bookings, local shopping, and tips. The resort accepts UPI, bank transfer, and credit/debit cards for all accommodation payments.

TERMS, CONDITIONS & POLICIES

What is your cancellation policy?

Free cancellation up to 30 days before check-in. 50% refund for cancellations between 15 and 30 days before check-in. No refund for cancellations within 15 days of arrival. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance for Lakshadweep trips, as flight cancellations and weather disruptions can occur.

Do you accept children?

Yes. Children of all ages are welcome. Children under 5 years stay free (sharing parents' room with no extra bedding). Children aged 6–12 can be accommodated with an extra mattress at ₹1,200/night. Older children are charged as adults.

What is your check-in and check-out time?

Check-in is at 2:00 PM. Check-out is at 11:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out are subject to availability and may incur a surcharge of ₹2,000 for an extended half-day.

Are pets allowed?

We are unable to accommodate pets at the resort.

Is smoking allowed?

All rooms are strictly non-smoking. Designated outdoor smoking areas are available. Smoking inside rooms will incur a deep-cleaning surcharge.

Do you offer a direct booking discount?
